Journaling

hiker journaling

If you're going on a multi-day/month long hike, journaling each day can be a great way to remember the journey. Highs, lows, mileage, people you meet, weather and just things that were on your mind.

Most days you're lost in your own thoughts as the steps tick by. Day after day, for months! There's only so much music, podcasts, audiobooks and even your hiking buddies you can handle on a given day. Some interesting things can bubble up to the surface and writing might be needed.

Ways to Journal your hike

• Phone app (there are tons of journal and diary options)
• Notebook (simple pen and paper)
• Sketchbook (draw, paint, write blurbs of interesting events of the day)
• Video/Audio recording (You don't need to share it, but this is a quick way to capture raw emotions)

There's no right or wrong way to journal while hiking. Pick one or two and test it out. See what feels natural and not something you force yourself to do. It should be nice to close out the day with some writing or jot things down on a break.
