Stoveless

stoveless when thru-hiking?

To save weight, some backpackers and thru-hikers choose to not bring stoves, eating food at "room temp".

That's a little extreme in my opinion! A hot meal, even if it's just a ramen bomb (noodles, instant mash potatoes & some other stuff), is nice at the end of a long day.

Some want hot coffee to get their day going.

It's up to you, but I like hot food at the end of a hiking day. Letting it rehydrate as I setup camp.

Though as the saying goes, Hike Your Own Hike.

Pros of Going Stoveless

• No fuel to deal with/find
• Hydrate meals while hiking and ready when you stop
• Weight and space savings
• Faster way to eat, no boiling and waiting

Cons

• No hot meals until in town
• No warm belly before bed
• No hot tea in camp
• If you're cold, the food is cold
